Purina PetCare UK & Ireland

Purina PetCare has been supporting Canine Partners since 2000. Currently Purina Petcare fully fund some of our puppies through training and they're a key part of the Canine Partners team, helping promote our 'Adopt a Puppy' scheme.

Canine Partners is very grateful to Purina PetCare not only for its financial support over the years but for the continued interest in our work and for providing ongoing PR support and guidance on a number of specific projects.

In recognition of the importance of our partnership, Purina Petcare have chosen Canine Partners to be their very first “Charity of the Year” in 2011/12. So far they have organised and taken part in more than 50 fund raising activities including bake sales, quiz nights, auctions and even sponsored head shaves! As well as being fun for the staff, these activities have raised almost £20,000 so far, that will be match funded by Purina with every penny going to Canine Partners.

In addition to Purina Petcare’s ongoing support, Sarah Russell, one of their members of staff, organised a Fun Gun Dog Event which was held at the Orchard Farm Boarding Kennels and Cattery in Outwood, Surrey courtesy of owners Mandy and Julian Smith. The day consisted of retrieving tests at various levels, and all judges, sponsors and organisers gave their time and resources for free to help raise money for Canine Partners, a fantastic £2050 on the day that gets match funded by Purina PetCare.

A team of 11 Purina PetCare staff are challenging themselves on 5 July 2012 to complete the Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours. Please help them to raise more money for Canine Partners and the puppies they are funding through training to become assistance dogs of the future: www.justgiving.com/PurinaTeam3PeakChallenge

"My grandmother has been a Puppy Parent since 1996 and has visited us with Canine Partner puppies many, many times as she has been involved with the training of over 30 puppies! Although I have always loved their company, I never really understood what the dogs did. I wanted to learn more so popped to see the Training Centre at Heyshott and they gave me a very interesting tour of the training facility. I felt so inspired, we talked about how Pets Corner might be able to help Canine Partners provide more dogs for people with disabilities.

We currently trade from 50 stores through the UK and serve just under 2 million customers each year. Our customers shop with us because they appreciate quality products and proper, qualified service and I know they will be very interested in finding out about Canine Partners as will our staff.

Canine Partners have kindly offered the store's staff that generates the most revenue, to experience their vital work first hand on a "Shadow a Trainer Day", which includes getting involved with a Puppy Class!"

Rug Doctor has been supporting the Charity since 2007.

Finance & HR Manager Paul Hansford runs Rug Doctor’s fundraising efforts. The relationship began because of Paul’s own personal connection with the charity.

Paul had previously worked at Canine Partners for two years, as a dog trainer; it was here he recognised the value of their hard work and wanted to continue helping the charity raise funds.

When Paul became an employee at Rug Doctor he identified an opportunity to help Canine Partners through setting up a staff snack shop in the Worthing Head Office, it is here where the funds are primarily raised; staff can buy a variety of drinks and snacks and the proceeds are donated to the charity.

“For the past four years we have been running a 'Snack Shop', which sells cold drinks, chocolate bars, crisps, fruit, healthier snacks etc and even ice creams in the summer,” commented Paul, Finance and HR Manager at Rug Doctor. “Through the empty tummies (!), and generous donations of Rug Doctor staff, we have managed to raise over £6,000 in that time. This is enough to pay for the acquisition of eight puppies to then be trained as assistance dogs”.

Isabel Campbell, Canine Partners’ Director of fundraising and marketing, says: “As a charity that receives no government funding we are reliant on support from companies and organisations such as Rug Doctors to raise vital funds for us.  Their donations are going directly to help us train more dogs for people with disabilities, and we would like to thank them for their generosity.”

On Thursday 25th August 2011 Rug Doctor had great pleasure in presenting a further cheque for £2,500 to Canine Partners at their Heyshott office.

Since the relationship began Rug Doctor has proudly raised over £6,000.

Hydrotherapy- Four Paws second Solent Swim Challenge

Most dogs love water but 28 dogs joined forces in April 2012 again to swim in relay 1500 lengths, which is the equivalent of the distance of the Solent, to raise funds for Canine Partners. The event took place at the Hydrotherapy-Four Paws pool at the Wickham Canine Rehabilitation Centre in Knowle Village and the hardy canines were cheered on in their efforts by canine partner puppy Ivan.

A variety of dogs took part including golden retriever Alfie, who swam 62 lengths and Poppy, a Jack Russell, who completed an awesome 102. Each competitor thoroughly enjoyed their exercise and was awarded a special swim certificate, a home-made carrot and parmesan bone and a tub of doggy ice cream. Big thanks go not only to the four-legged heroes, but also to their owners who raised the sponsorship money, and staff at Hydrotherapy-Four Paws who gave up their Saturday. Their incredible watery challenge has currently raised £2500.

A huge thank you to all staff, the dogs and generous owners supporting Canine Partners.
