Canine Partners charity places available for 2011 Brighton Marathon

Canine Partners who specialise in providing highly trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities, has a number of charity places still available for the 2011 Brighton Marathon.  Taking place on Sunday 10th April, the 26.2 mile event will tour England’s most popular seaside city, taking in glorious views of the South Downs and along the coast.

Raising money for Canine Partners will help to transform the lives of more people like Claire Graham from Eastbourne, whose Canine Partner Ulli helps her with every day tasks such as dressing, doing the washing and shopping.  Claire, a wheelchair user, was partnered with Ulli in 2005 and hasn’t looked back since. “Having a Canine Partner is a life changing experience,” comments Claire.  “I can't imagine how I managed life before Ulli.  He not only helps me with everyday living and tasks, but he is such a character that he makes me laugh everyday and as the saying goes, ‘laughter is the best medicine!’"

Isabel Campbell, Director of Fundraising and Marketing comments, “General entries for the Brighton Marathon are now full, so if you would like a New Year challenge, please sign up to run for us.  As a small independent charity, we do rely on our network of fundraisers out in the community – so please join the team!”

To take part for Canine Partners, there is a fundraising target of £400 to help us purchase a new puppy for training to become a future canine partner. If you, your friends, family or colleagues would like to take part in the Brighton Marathon for Canine Partners, please contact Jill Green on 01730 716014.

Michael Walker from Brighton took part in last year’s Brighton Marathon and Beachy Head Marathon. “I was inspired by the work of Canine Partners, which drove me to raise as much money as possible to help them train more dogs to help people with disabilities.  Last year I hadn’t run since I was at school but now I have two marathons under my belt which is a great sense of achievement!”
