Pendean Nursing Home Adopt Canine Partner Puppy Pandora

Pendean House Nursing Home have committed to a year long programme of fundraising, in which they will raise up to £10,000 to cover the cost of adopting a Canine Partner puppy.  Pandora, the chocolate Labrador puppy who is in the first stages of the 18 month training programme, this week visited the Home to meet residents.

As part of the adoption programme, Pendean will receive regular visits from Pandora together with monthly updates on her progress and keepsake photographs.  During Pandora’s visit this week, Canine Partners put on an exclusive display for Pendean residents in which they demonstrated the skills of dogs in advanced training such as undressing partners; opening doors; taking clothes out of the washing machine etc. for people with disabilities.

Jackie Travers, Manager of Pendean House Nursing Home comments, “Canine Partners is a local charity as close to our hearts as it is in distance from Pendean.  When we found out about their puppy adoption scheme we held a residents meeting to discuss whether this was something that everyone involved with the home (residents and staff alike) would like to embark on. In fully understanding what Canine Partners do and how their work benefits many people with varying disabilities, the response was a resounding ‘yes’ so our adoption progressed and we were introduced to Pandora.  I think following her progress will be thoroughly rewarding and the regular visits we will receive from Pandora will provide our residents with an enormous amount of pleasure”.

Isabel Campbell, Director of Fundraising & Marketing at Canine Partners: “We are thrilled with Pendean’s decision to support Pandora through her training to help her become a Canine Partner. We currently have hundreds of people on the list who are waiting to benefit from a Canine Partner and Pendean’s generous fundraising support will go a great way towards helping us to address this growing demand for our dogs. Pandora will provide Pendean with a great new asset to their forthcoming fundraising events and her Puppy Parent will be able to make regular visits with her to Pendean’s residents and attend selected events”.
