Caine Partners Summer Fair a great success

The crowds were treated to several demonstrations of how a canine partner can help a person with a disability, and the Charity’s newest recruits lined up to take part in a special puppy show which was very popular.  Visitors who brought their own four-legged friends had a choice of trying their hand (and paws!) at a special agility course, or entering one of the three classes in the Dog Show.  There were a huge number of entrants for the Waggiest Tail, and Dog The Judge Would Most Like to Take Home classes, with flatcoat retriever Barklay impressing the judge with his never-stopping tail and Border terrier Angus being the dog judge David Bailey – Canine Partners Director of Operations – would like to take home.  However, the majority of dogs were entered for the Best-Looking Dog class, and after much deliberation the honours went to Cockerpoo Teddy, who completely won David over with his lovely apricot coloured coat and winsome brown eyes.

Ponies Dotty, Bess and Merlin were kept very busy with queues of young children eager to have a ride round one of the Charity’s fields, and the bouncy castle and Kids Zone were a magnet for the many youngsters at the event.  There was even a chance to get their own back on their mum or dad with the Sponge the Parent stall!

There were opportunities for the adults to show their support by either signing up to become a volunteer puppy parent – someone who takes the young pup into their home for up to a year and teaches the dog some basic core skills – or to join the Adopt a Puppy regular giving scheme.  This fundraising initiative allows the Charity to plan for the future while offering the adopter a chance to follow a puppy through its training and onto when it is partnered with a disabled person.  With an ice cream van, a Pimms stall and a barbecue, there were plenty of refreshments to keep the whole family satisfied, and to relax and listen to the live music played by guitarist Clive Bates.

In addition to raising awareness of the work of Canine Partners, the event raised in excess of £4500 which will help the Charity to train more dogs for people with disabilities.
