Canine Partners Dog Demo to take place at Disability Somerset Exhibition

The Somerset puppy training satellite for national charity Canine Partners, will be carrying out three dog demonstrations at Disability Somerset Exhibition on 19 May at the Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

The Charity will have an information and merchandise stall at the event, so visitors can find out about how a canine partner can change the life of a person with disabilities.  There will be three demonstrations taking place at 12.10pm, 2.50pm and 4.40pm showing the work of Canine Partners.  This will include puppies in training and demonstration dogs performing advanced skills such as opening doors, picking up dropped items and much more.

Ann Norcott (51) from Taunton has paraplegia and graduated with her second canine partner Noodle in 2003.  “The help Noodle gives me with physical tasks is essential, but having a canine partner provides amazing social benefits too.  Noodle goes everywhere with me, we are as one, my best friend always by my side.  Being in a wheelchair reduces social interaction, pride, self esteem and confidence.  But with Noodle people now see the dog and not the chair and speak to me, and I also benefit from the fresh air and exercise.”

Heather Loan, puppy trainer in Somerset, comments, “We have a growing presence in Somerset but are still looking for people to help us. We particularly need puppy parents who offer homes to the puppies whilst they are training here and attend weekly classes in Stawell.  Do come and see us at the disability show or Royal Bath & West to see for yourself the amazing abilities of these dogs in assisting people with disabilities.”

Canine Partners will also be at the Royal Bath & West 1-4 June. .  For further information on getting involved with Canine Partners in Somerset please call Heather Loan on 07826 232 727.
