Canine Partners in Essex Needs Your Help!

National charity Canine Partners, who provides specially trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities, urgently needs the help of local residents with a few hours to spare to help transform the lives of people with disabilities in Essex.

The Essex team have just launched its volunteer recruitment programme and require help in six key areas (full details can be found at www.caninepartners.org.uk/essex_volunteers

-      Fundraising team volunteers
-      Public collection volunteers
-      Volunteer administrator
-      Volunteer events assistants
-      Volunteer speakers

Since launching into Essex in 2008, the Charity has gone from strength to strength with a fundraising office in Chelmsford, a puppy training satellite at Writtle College and 6 working partnerships in the local community.

Community Fundraiser for Canine Partners Lindsay Hurrell comments, “Whether you have a couple of hours a week to spare or much more, we would appreciate any time you could give us.  We urgently need to build a network of volunteers throughout Essex, who are willing to support the work we do and help make a difference to the lives of people with disabilities.”

Jay Denton from Colchester has multiple sclerosis and is the fortunate recipient of canine partner Drummer. “Some of the ways Drummer helps me are by getting the laundry out of the machine and putting it into the dryer.  Every morning he collects the post and brings it to me; this saves my precious energy as well as avoiding the risk of a fall as I bend down. Anything that I drop such as keys, gloves, even my crutches he will pick up and hand back to me or put it onto my lap – he also opens and closes doors. All of these may seem like small token tasks, but to someone with a finite amount of energy and always under the looming cloud of fatigue, it’s a huge help!”
