The Essex fundraising team from Canine Partners, who provides highly trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities, is thanking Southend United Football Club for allowing them to hold a collection day last weekend which raised £317.22. It was a celebration all round after the team won 3-0 against Port Vale.
Little puppy Geoffrey and canine partner Elmo joined some of the team in the stands for the first half and behaved impeccably, despite never having been to a football match before.
Lindsey Hurrell, Essex Community Fundraiser comments, “We are very grateful to Southend United Football Club, especially Ray Davy and David Jobson who arranged for the collection to take place. It was a great opportunity to raise awareness about the work of Canine Partners in the area, as well as raising funds. I would also like to thank the supporters of Southend United for their kind generosity in helping us to raise this fantastic amount of money which will go towards supporting our Essex Puppy training satellite.”
Stephanie Flower from Southend has hereditary spastic paraparesis. “Thanks to my canine partner Elmo I can lead a pretty independent life, I could not manage without him. The tasks Elmo helps me with are endless, but include emptying the washing into the basket, letting the cat out, paying at the supermarket checkout and pressing pedestrian crossing buttons.”
