A bluebell walk that took place on Sunday 8 May at Langford Grove, near Maldon has raised over £1,500 for Canine Partners, a charity that provides highly trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities. Over 173 walkers attended with many dogs in tow.
Walkers covered a distance of two miles through the beautiful countryside at Langford Grove. The weather stayed dry and sunny, with plenty of bluebells in sight.
Lindsay Hurrell, Community Fundraiser comments, “I would like to thank everyone form the local community who came along and supported our annual Bluebell Walk here in Essex. We have received some lovely comments from people saying how much they enjoyed it. The money that has been raised will go towards supporting even more people with a physical disability within the region. We plan to hold the walk again next year so watch out for the date”.
One of the attendees was Barry O’Connell from Clacton on Sea and his canine partner Guy. Barry sustained a spinal injury in 2005 and was partnered with Guy in 2010, he has this to say. “Guy pulls me up in the morning, and from then on our partnership really starts. I get his breakfast then he will get anything I ask, like socks and underwear. His favourite task is taking clothes out of the washing machine. He also takes the card and receipt out of a cash machine, as well as the money. He enjoys the supermarket and getting items for me then paying. I have gone from winter to summer, thanks to this magic dog.”
Canine Partners is always looking for volunteers, fundraisers and puppy parents from the local community. If you would like to find out more, please contact Lindsay Hurrell on 01245-608355.
