Fundraising efforts reach £30,000 for Canine Partners in Bedford

Over the course of 2011 the Bedford puppy training satellite, based at Happy Dogs Training Centre on Bedford Road, has raised £30,000 to boost funds for the Charity.  This money was raised through a number of activities such as talks and demonstrations to local groups, an annual dog show, a Christmas Fair as well as generous donations from individuals and businesses in the area.

To start their 2012 fundraising efforts on a high, Canine Partners in Bedford will be receiving two cheques totalling £7,000 on Thursday 2 February at 2pm.  The first for £2,000 is from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Hertfordshire based in St Albans.  The second is for £5,000 from the Freemasons Grand Charity to match the total fundraising efforts of both Provincial Grand Lodge of Hertfordshire and King Henry VIII Lodge, as £3,000 was donated from the latter at the end of 2011 by Rob Gurney of Stevenage who is a member of the Lodge and whose mother has a canine partner.

This takes the total funds donated via The Freemasons to the Bedford puppy training satellite to £10,000, which is enough to sponsor a puppy through it’s training to  become a flully fledged canine partner.

There are currently fifteen puppies in and around the Bedford area being trained under the watchful eye of Lorraine Lotan.  They are looked after by volunteer puppy parents from the local community who offer them a loving home whilst they are following the Canine Partners programme.

Lorraine comments “We are so pleased our fundraising efforts have paid off and 2011 was such a successful year. The funds we have received from The Freemasons have far exceeded our expectations and we are very grateful to everyone involved.  However, we couldn’t do what we do in Bedford without the support of our volunteers, especially the puppy parents.  We are always looking for more people to help us, so please get in touch if you have any time to spare.”
