Purple Run is a Runaway Success

Canine Partners, who provides specially trained assistance dogs for people with disabilities, hosted their first ever Purple Run on Saturday.  Thirty six runners took on the 5km challenge, around the stunning grounds of Petworth Park.  All participants were dressed in purple, and raised in excess of £3500, a fantastic amount.

Runners included David Filmer, with his canine partner Zack, a team of care workers from The Greenbanks Homecare Haslemere Team and Canine Partners CEO Andy Cook, plus one brave participant, the Charity’s puppy satellite supervisor Ronnie Paskouis, completed the course dressed in a full size dog costume.

Iain Peck, from Mitcham in Surrey, was first to cross the finish line in 22.33 minutes, with Peter Elderton coming in second, in a time of 23.46 minutes and Peter Berkley third in 25.23 minutes.  Andy Cook did the Charity proud by coming in fourth.

Jill Green, head of regional fundraising for Canine Partners, says: “Saturday was a huge success. We were thrilled at the numbers that turned out for this brand new event. The weather was kind, and Petworth House was a beautiful backdrop. I’m sure everyone involved would agree that it was a fantastic and fun day out.

“We are already planning next year’s event, and aim to build on the success of Saturday.  The Purple Run will now be a regular feature on the Canine Partners calendar, hopefully getting bigger and better each year.”

If you would like to get involved, and take on a challenge for Canine Partners, why not sign up for this year’s Santa Fun Run.  This 5km run will be taking place on Sunday 11 December, at Parham House, Pulborough, West Sussex, and will see participants taking on the course dressed as Father Christmas.  For further information on the Santa Fun Run and to register please call Jill Green on 01730 716014 or email jillg@caninepartners.org.uk.
