You Are Here : Santa Fun Run in Staffordshire
Participants will don a Santa suit and complete the 5k fun run through the grounds of Dunstall Estate and through Dunstall (weather permitting). Upon completion they will be rewarded with mince pies and mulled wine, in true Christmas spirit. Children aged eight and over are welcome to enter and will be provided with a Christmas hat to wear, then receive a drink and mince pie at the end.
Stephanie Wainwright (30) from Stoke on Trent decided to enter the event as a challenge to lose weight and a way to raise funds for such a worthy cause. “I had seen the concept of Santa Fun Runs and looked on the Internet to see whether any were taking place in my area. I am passionate about animals, so when I read about the Canine Partners Santa Fun Run to support the work they do in the Staffordshire region for people with disabilities I chose to take part. I am not a runner and have gone from doing no exercise to being able to run 2K, as a result of training. I have already lost weight and am feeling good about myself, my challenge is to complete the 5K non-stop and raise lots of money for Canine Partners!”
Paul McKenzie from Staffordshire has diabetic severe neuropathy and graduated with canine partner Millie in 2010. “I have found that people talk to me now, I’m not just an adult in a wheelchair - they ask about Millie, they ask about me and they just chat,” says Paul. “If I drop something, no longer have I to attempt to pick it up and risk falling from my wheelchair as Millie is always there to pick it up and give it back to me. Instead of my life just drifting by, I’ve re-discovered it thanks to Millie.”
The cost to enter the Santa Fun Run is £12 per adult and £8 per child, which includes Santa suit, drink and a mince pie. Entrants are asked to raise as much sponsorship as possible. Wheelchair users are welcome. For further information and to register please call Jill Green on 01730 716014 or email jillg@caninepartners.org.uk.
