Unique Monopoly Run for Canine Partners raises £800

To carry out this task they thought of themselves, believed not to have been tackled before, the men were dressed in white running vests depicting the famous Monopoly Man and sporting top hats.  They started at Old Kent Road and finished at Mayfair, completing the run in a time of 11 hours and raising over £1750 in total for both charities.

Dom Godfrey chose to raise funds for Canine Partners, a charity to which his grandparents, who used to be volunteer puppy parents, introduced him.  “The run was hard work but really great fun,” says Dom.  “Oxford Street was chaos as we hit it early afternoon at peak shopping time, but we certainly put a smile on people’s faces when they realised what we were doing!  Many people asked who I was raising money for and when I explained about the way a canine partner can change the life of someone with disabilities, they donated on the spot.  Navigation was tough at times but all the runners enjoyed spending their Saturday in a truly unique way!”

Steve Miles from West Sussex has had canine partner Mozart since 2003 and has this to say, “Being in a wheelchair and disabled eats away at your self-confidence, but Mozart helps to replace that and has let me lead a more normal life than I might have had otherwise.  I have no doubt he has kept me more mobile, given me a purpose and structure to my day as well as helping me around the house with things I find more difficult.”
